Practical hours

How enrolled doulas will complete and login practical hours.

AFTER CERTIFICATION, SIGNATURE DOULAS WOULD HAVE COMPLETED A TOTAL OF 100 PRACTICAL HOURS.

Each doula needs to complete a series of assigned practical hours before becoming a certified Signature doula.

​

More specifics will be made clear in the course itself.

​

 

 

The formalities are as follows:

​

  • Each doula must assist at least three clients during pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and breastfeeding -feeding in general before completing the course.

  • A minimum of 5 prenatal and 2 postpartum client meetings are required.

  • Attending births will have to be face to face and recorded in your logsheet.

  • Doulas will have to perform an educational, step by step bath tutorial for the parents, as well as infant hydrotherapy

  • Clients have to differ (e.g., 1 Natural/vaginal birth client, 1 Cesarean section client; 1 VBAC client)

  • EACH DOULA WILL HAVE TO COMPLETE A BASIC LIFE SUPPORT COURSE. Certification of completion will have to be sent in with practical hours to be evaluated.

PLEASE NOTE THAT RETRIEVING CLIENTS WILL BE EACH DOULA'S OWN RESPONSIBILITY.

Birth case study:

 

  • ​​12 hours per client before birth (Antenatal support)

  • 15 hours per client at birth (Birth support)

  • 7 hours per client after birth (Postpartum support) – infant hydrotherapy included

  • 1-hour breastfeeding assistance/education

 

Forms are provided in the main course) and emailed to signature.doula.course@gmail.com (The total required hours will be made clear in the course)

The following will are required in each case study: 

​

  1. Antenatal meetings (How many home visits were made and what information had been discussed)​

  2. Birth (What happens when complications or difficulties noticed and how each was handled)

  3. How long the delivery endured 

  4. How Long you acted as the doula​

  5. Postpartum(What services you provided and obstacles were observed)

  6. Breastfeeding/feeding in general (How you contributed and handled obstacles)

Practicals in COVID 19

Signature Doula's mission is to produce capable doulas no matter what obstacles we encounter.

​

Practical hours during COVID19 will commence as follows:

​

Signature doula's course design is convenient and within necessary safety measures. Meaning that individuals can complete the course in the comfort and safety of their own home. 


Each doula will have to complete a series of assigned hours and record all practical hours ,as well as services rendered on the provided loggsheet.

a minimum of 24 hours per client is required.

​

Practical hours during COVID-19 will commence as follows:

​

  1. Doulas will have to assist three separate clients with different needs and births VIA WHATSAPP/ZOOM/SKYPE​

  2. All conversations will have to be recorded and logged in as practical hours on the provided form.

  3. All obstacles observed and course of action taken must be recorded and logged as your practical hours.

  4. Doulas must assist in the following areas:

​

  • Breastfeeding/feeding in general​

  • Antenatal support

  • Virtual birth support

  • Postpartum support

​

5.Doulas will have to create a website, Facebook, and the Instagram page as well as digital educational material such as flyers.

6.If possible doulas have to complete a basic life support training program (online or in person) and submit their certificates along with their practical hours.


All of which will have to be submitted for evaluation.
